Through browsing our web site you will gain a solid understanding of the recording process and know what to look for when you choose a studio to get a great product at an affordable price. Since 1998 Fandango has been promoting a clear business model: we want to have customers and earn their respect; we want them to feel comfortable and relaxed when they work in our studio, because they understand Fandango offers them an excellent product. Fandango's business model is based on open communication, a down-to-earth attitude, top quality services, knowledge and experience. We strongly believe music is the most important thing in life, and we strive to achieve the sound that makes the song shine no matter what, while you, as a musician, have a great experience going through the recording session and feel comfortable and confident. We have a lot of returning customers and they told us they love the studio atmosphere- very relaxed- and they are very happy with the quality of their projects. There are many reasons Fandango would be the right answer for you musical project: - Fandango Recording is a medium size professional recording studio. It was built following classic recording studio principles, with two live rooms (240 and 142 square feet) and control room (204 square feet) built by professionals, isolated and acoustically treated with bass traps, Helmholtz resonators, absorbers, diffusers and high quality Sonex and Auralex acoustic foam to contain the standing waves, with separate power supply, all regulated and filtered, and with high-end grade audio cables hand soldered and individually checked- see our Overview for a general description of the studio and of course, check the Photos. - Fandango takes great pride about the cozy, creative and comfortable atmosphere provided, which helps to deliver a great musical performance. - Speaking of performance, a personal multi-cue monitoring system is available, so each musician can control what he hears in the headphones and have his own mix the way he likes it and makes him comfortable. - The live rooms easily accommodate a group of people recording a large set of drums and percussion, playing together with the whole band. Having the band playing together is very important because the performance comes first and we want to offer a proper environment for it. Fandango can record 16 simultaneous tracks (and can be extended to 28 if necessary). - The studio space is owned, not rented, and this is one of the reasons Fandango can afford to pass the savings to its customers, maintaining very affordable rates without compromising quality. - The studio owner/engineer/producer - Florin B - has extensive experience behind the console. Classically trained guitar player, former jazz-rock band leader, songwriter and producer, he worked for Electrekord and TVRL before opening his own studio. He will help in producing your songs in case you do not have a producer; many of our customers can attest he was a great help to them (we do have at the studio a list of references which we make available to everybody who wants it). - Fandango provides recording on location with up to 16 tracks at 24 bit/192KHz resolution. Fandango has the experience to record classical/choir/chamber music, jazz on location and live performances. Fandango employs professional techniques (like Decca trees, ORTF, M&S) and specific equipment (extremely transparent preamps and high-end mics) to capture every nuance in large spaces like churches, concert halls, clubs. - Fandango records up to 16 tracks simultaneously. Each of the 16 tracks is recorded through a high-end preamp and microphone- check the Equipment page. The conversion A/D (analog-digital) is done through Aurora 16 Lynx Mastering Grade Converter connected to Lynx AES 16! The conversion from analog to digital (and from digital to analog- for mixing and mastering purpose) is more important than most people think: the mastering grade converters provide extremely low artifacts using the most advanced jitter reduction technologies. - The quality of the whole audio chain is the best possible, and, more important, is constant all the way. The studio has a great selection of high end microphones (condensers- tubes, large and small- dynamics and ribbons) with different flavors and high-end mic preamps- both tubes and solid state, covering the whole spectrum, from extremely transparent to colored ones-, high-end EQ's and compressors, so it can provide an excellent sound for all types of instruments (drums, percussion, strings, brass, bass, reeds, keys, and, of course, vocals). There aren't too many studios in Canada that offer a vocal recording chain with a preamp like Martech MSS-10 and a Tube Tech CL-1B compressor! Fandango blends the analog and digital technologies to cover the entire audio spectrum you can think of. - Regarding the software, Fandango uses Cubase and Nuendo (they have the same excellent audio engine, which is the reason they are more and more used in the major music production studios worldwide). As for the plugins, Fandango uses only the very top ones - check Equipment page- as UAD, TC Powercore, Waves. - The control room is acoustically tuned and the monitoring system for mixing/mastering is excellent and accurate (mid and nearfield monitors). - Fandango can provides different instruments- guitars, bass, synths and keys, percussions - and high-end amps and effects so you can experiment and choose something if you’re not happy with your own rig. Fandango has the experience to record basically every style of music- check the Samples page- providing an excellent quality. - The studio is located at Leslie and Lawrence; it is easily accessible from everywhere; it’s only minutes away from the 401 or Don Valley Parkway. The area is quiet, there are parks all around (Edward Gardens, Talwood Park) and the large and treed backyard is a great place to relax. - The studio is extremely clean and well maintained. It has air conditioning and dehumidifiers during summer and humidifiers in winter which is quite important especially for vocals.
