The Studio

The most important things a recording studio has to provide are comfort, great atmosphere and excellent acoustics and we didn't spare any effort to achieve these objectives. Fandango Recording's live (see photos) and control rooms were built following acoustic principles; attention was paid to all the details. They are 12'x11', 16' x 12' and 17'x11. The live rooms can be used at the same time, and they provide a great sound for recording (vocal, drums, any other instrument). There is a closed TV circuit to allow the communication between the live rooms; as far as the control room goes, there is a glass separation between each live room and the control room.

'The acoustics of the studio are excellent- we take great pride in them! Both the recording and the control rooms have three out of four walls covered with wood which provides a very natural sound and they are both sound insulated.  The second live room is alive, and because of the L shape and the combination of wood, hardwood floor, drywall and glass, it is easy to achieve great sounds. We are using also acoustical panels to control the reflections or for a better control of the leakage in the mics, wherever the case may be. The ceiling is made of special acoustic tiles.

In order to control the standing waves and the frequency spectrum, we use bass traps and high quality acoustic foam both in the live and control rooms; we also use Helmholtz resonators and sound diffusers in the control room. They were designed and positioned after we performed many measurements and a computer simulation of the frequency response of both rooms and analyzed the standing waves and room modes. As a result, the sound is extremely balanced (less than 18dB difference from 20 to 300 Hz) with great definition.

The studio has a complete separate electric circuit to maintain the ground noise as low as possible. All the equipment runs on Furman power conditioners, Monster PowerClean units and back-up power supplies. The rooms are built completely like a Faraday box against radio waves and radiations. Both rooms have windows so they have natural light during the day. The studio has AC/heating/humidifier/dehumidifier. During spring-summer-fall the quiet and treed backyard can be an ideal place for reflection and relaxation. The parking is free, and there are a lot of restaurants and fast food places closed by - either at York Mills and Leslie, or Lawrence and Don Mills.
