2010

I wish everyone a Happy New Year!...  the signs are that this will be a more vibrant year... at least January will be a very busy one...

2009

...came to a close!... It was a great year as the studio underwent a major upgrade in acoustics - basically we overhauled completely the acoustics from excellent broadband absorbers, quadratic and polycylyndrical diffusers to new floors, and new monitors! The monitors are Barefoot MM27, some fantastic monitors, made for both mixing and mastering; all I can say is that I have never had such a revealing listening experience since I listened to some ATC's a few years ago!

There were many interesting projects - from the Men of Note Choir of the Anglican Church from Stouffvile- conductor Margot Rejskind- to Lynn Glazer and Sunny Choi, from Lewis and Semere to White Knights and Vic, and from Julia Zibrat and Natasha to Angelo and Sincere, from Steve to Moise and Daniel... and all the people I work with brought joy and made me think one more time that I'm a lucky guy doing what I do...

2008

Vic and Peter at Pacemaker - check www.pacemaker.cd are continuing to bring to life many of the 60's Toronto bands and our studio provides the restoration and the remastering- there are some great albums out there- Blackstone,  Eugene Smith, A Passing Fancy, Peter Foldy, Jarvis Streeet Revue, Robbie Lane and the Disciples, make sure you check them out, this is part of the Toronto rock  music history!.

Chris Denholm finished his second album- an interesting collection of Chinese stories! John Blair- a Toronto songwriter- entered the contest for "Hockey Night in Canada" theme and we created the arrangement for his song! We are also helping Lewis with his first recording and create the beats for his hip-hop songs.

The beginning of 2008 was quite busy here, at Fandango; a couple of major projects, like "Anastacia-Joy to the world" of Anastacia Joy - a beautiful Christmas song collection produced by Jim Pellegrini, a couple of pro demos- Tony Denarro Band, The Takers, Tessa, also a lot of restoration and mastering - I'd like to mention Chris Miller first CD, an outstanding collection of originals! We are looking forward to 2008, as it marks the 10th year since we started Fandango Recording!

2007

2007 was an interesting year, and we are proud to witness and record some outstanding musical performances. First, Anastasia Joy with a superb collection of songs - like Nessum Dorma, Time to say goodbye, Ave Maria - and all I can say is "wow!" -check the samples page!

I was fortunate to be part of a very interesting training that Holt Renfrew organized for its managers. They came up with a very interesting idea about putting a team together, and basically, people who never sang before ended up being part of a choir! We have recorded what the choir prepared and it was a lot of fun and great vibe and everybody was happy.

The students from the University of Toronto- Scarborough campus- organized a  talent show and they have decided to record the entire show and asked us to do it. The show was a success and they will release soon the CD with the live show. Another recording on location (our second collaboration- the first collaboration ended with a very nice DVD last year) was done for the Ethiopian Church.

I also have the pleasure of working with some excellent and talented guys, like Andrew Miedema, Nikky Talley, Samantha and Serena, Johnny De Wolf Band, Shako, etc. Chris Denholm finished his first album "Animal Stories" and already started to record a second CD with an interesting collection of Chinese stories!

We are happy to work with the local label Pacemaker Toronto on transferring and restoring  LP’s recorded on 60’s, like The Mainline- Bump’n Grind, The Whiskey Howl, Richard Love, Gaiety Records Story II, etc- please check www.pacemaker.cd  and I’d like to congratulate Vic and Peter for the work they’re doing, bringing back to the market some  excellent recordings which are part of Toronto's musical history. I also had the privilege to restore some old vinyl's- 78's from April 1945 recorded by Alan Parkin's band and I was impressed, it was very emotional, a very fine collection of old jazz standards.

During 2007 we made a lot of upgrades and improvements. First of all, we upgraded our preamps: we are proud to offer to our customers some high-end new preamps like Martech MSS-10, Pendulum MDP-1 and a Vintech X73, as well as a Tube Tech CL-1B tube compressor- THE standard for vocals. We have upgraded our A/D and D/A convertors to mastering grade ones- Lynx Aurora 16,  and we completely upgraded our computer system, adding more memory and power and more DSP processing cards, a controller surface- Mackie MCU, and of course software. Other upgrades are: a new subwoofer a Mackie HR120, a personal headphone monitoring system from HearBack Technologies (which allows each musician to do his own mix) and improved acoustic panels and bass traps and some new excellent mics and SE Reflection Filters- check out the equipment page.

Not news anymore - we have now the second live room. While the sound of the first live room is very tight, not completely dead, but close, the second live room provides a beautiful live sound. Our first project using the new room was an interesting commercial CD of Ken G, a jazz sax player from Japan- http://www.geocities.jp/kengsax/. He was recorded in the new live room and the sound is truly remarkable. He plays along with Dan Ionescu- guitar, and Jack Zorawski- stand up bass.

Back in  2003, Fandango started to promote an open list of musicians available for gigging or recording. I update the list periodically- see the musicians page. The listing is absolutely free!. For those of you who want to join the list, please drop an email, let me know who you are, what instrument and type of music you're playing, leave a contact address (email and phone number), and most importantly, a list of references; I will contact you right away, because I would like to come and see you playing when you have a gig and then I can put you on the list. Again, the list is open to any player of any music style, but you have to have regular gigs. For the musicians who are paying union dues, no references are necessary.

FANDANGO has very affordable rates and different packages to accommodate every demand; we want to have happy customers who will recommend our studio to their friends- we are not looking only for one time deals, we're looking for long-time working relations.  For info please contact us at 416 579 5569, or  email us at florinb@fandangorecording.com.
